On Saturday May 14th students in Edwardsville will get the chance to make dreams come true for kids with serious medical conditions when Make-a-Wish Illinois comes to SIUE’s Korte Stadium to host a 5K walk, run, and fun costume contest. The event helps raise funds for children’s “wish lists” in order to uplift their spirits and increase their strength and quality of life.
This year’s Walk & Run for Wishes kicks off with registration starting at 7:30am at the stadium, followed by the 5K run and walk at 9am. The Make a Wish Foundation’s goal is to use the proceeds from this and other area events to grant 700 wishes to Illinois families this year. Some of the past wishes granted for area kids include meeting their favorite princesses and movie characters at a Florida theme park, seeing the ocean for the first time, swimming with dolphins, visiting the Kennedy Space Center to see the space shuttles, and of course eating their fill of ice cream and cotton candy!
Students ages 18-22 can register for the event here for $15, and can sign up as an individual or can form a team. The adult fees are $25 for walkers and $30 for runners, and children 18 and under are $10. If you can’t make the event, you can donate to Walk & Run for Wishes Edwardsville here.
