Halloween events don’t always have to be filled with blood-curdling frights to be fun. One of the most beloved Halloween events near Southern Illinois University combines the magic of Halloween with a good old-fashioned American favorite–a parade. Downtown Edwardsville comes alive each year on Halloween night with the Annual Halloween Parade.
The 2016 Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce Halloween Parade kicks off on Halloween night at 6:30 pm. This year’s incredibly fun theme is “TV Classics”, so you’ll be sure to see some of the country’s most memorable and beloved TV icons throughout the evening. Each year, the Halloween Parade is brimming with dazzling floats, fantastic marching bands, amazing entertainers, as well as a variety of school groups and community organizations that work hard to provide citizens with wonderful, enriching events all year round.
The parade begins at the Lincoln Middle School parking lot at Schwartz & West Streets, travels east on St. Louis to Vandalia Street, continues on North Main Street, and ends on High Street. Parking is available at the super lot on East Main Street and on side streets, and handicapped parking is available at Jerry’s Tire Sales lot. Portable bathrooms are located at Walgreens, First Clover Leaf Bank, and Big Daddy’s.
The Halloween Parade has never been cancelled due to weather, but there have been delays in the past. If the parade is cancelled, there is no rain date. In case of poor weather, the Chamber of Commerce will make an announcement regarding delays or cancellations by 5:30 pm that evening.
The Halloween Parade is a 95-year-old tradition in that brings nearly 25,000 spectators to downtown Edwardsville to share in this community event. Please feel free to contact us to learn more living near Southern Illinois University.
